2024 UTMRRR (semi-light)

DAY 1: Randa > Gressoney

DISTANCE: 42-53km

ELEVATION GAIN: 2600-2900m

START: Randa, Switzerland

DESTINATION: Gressoney-La-Trinité, Italy

ACCOMMODATION:  B&B Alchemilla

Departing from Randa Basecamp, we can either run up the valley (11km / 300vm) or take the train to Zermatt, grab a coffee, then begin the real journey with the climb past Trockener Steg and up the glacier to the Theodul Pass (3300m), down into the forest at the head of the Ayas valley, back up and over the Colle de Rothorn (2660m), and finally down to Gressoney-La-Trinité (1600m).

DAY 2: Gressoney > Macugnaga

DISTANCE: 44km

ELEVATION GAIN: 2900m

START: Gressoney-La-Trinité, Italy

DESTINATION: Macugnaga, Italy

ACCOMMODATION:  Monterosa Residence

After breakfast at the B&B, we will climb up to the Passo del Salati (2950m), descent the East side to Alagna (1170m), then pass the pictureque Rifugio Pastore on the way to the Colle del Turlo (2700m) and then down to Macugnaga (1310m).

DAY 3: Macugnaga > Randa

DISTANCE: 44-60km

ELEVATION GAIN: 2600-3200m

START: Macugnaga, Italy

DESTINATION: Randa, Switzerland

ACCOMMODATION:  Randa Basecamp

From Macugnaga we will climb up to the Monte Moro Pass (2790m) where we will cross back into Switzland and begin the descent to Saas Fee (1800m), followed by the high mountain path around the Mischabel range to reach Grächen (1600m), where we can either continue running to Herbriggen and Randa, or take the bus down to St. Nicklaus and the train back to Randa.
